MTSCONSULT · JOB INTERVIEW

Prepare for a meaningful conversation

A job interview gives both sides the opportunity to get to know each other better and explore whether the role, the company and your personal expectations are a good match.

It is about more than answering the interviewer’s questions. A successful interview is a conversation between equals, in which you can also ask questions, explain your expectations and gain a thorough understanding of the role, the company and its culture.

Good preparation builds confidence

Research the company, its products, markets and current challenges in advance. Consider the requirements of the role and how your experience, capabilities and professional achievements relate to them.

Be ready to present your career history clearly and explain key stages, decisions and achievements using specific examples. You should also reflect on your motivation for a possible career move and your expectations of the new role.

Prepare questions of your own, for example about the objectives of the role, expectations for the first few months, the scope for decision-making or how people work together within the company.

Punctuality and a professional presence

Punctuality is expected and is an important sign of reliability and respect for the people you are meeting. Allow sufficient time for your journey and take possible traffic delays into account. Ideally, arrive around five to ten minutes before the agreed appointment.

If a delay is unavoidable despite careful planning, let the people you are meeting know as early as possible.

Be open, attentive and authentic. Listen actively and take the time to give considered answers.

Your interview with your recruitment consultant

The same guidance applies to the initial interview with your recruitment consultant. This conversation also helps build a better understanding of your professional experience, personal expectations and motivation, so that you can assess together whether the role is right for you.
